About Serene Hadaya

Serene Hadaya is a student at the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. As vice president of the Syrian American Medical Society, she has organized a range of events and culture booths to raise awareness of the Syrian crisis. She is also a former president of the National Arab American Medical Student Association and co-founder of Students Organize for Syria (SOS). Serene Hadaya oversaw 32 SOS chapters on campuses throughout the United States and managed its finances and operations.

A member of the Stritch School of Medicine Class of 2024, Serene Hadaya plans to apply for pediatric residency positions. She is an Alpha Sigma Nu inductee and an Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society member. She has received multiple scholarships and is working on a pediatric exercise monitoring project examining the effectiveness of positive reinforcement text messages in encouraging physical activity and improving mental health in people with obesity. She earned a bachelor of science in biology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Serene Hadaya also enjoys volunteering and helping others. She tutors English as a Second Language (ESL) and has led individual and small group mentor sessions for medical students on topics such as professionalism and emotional wellness. She has additional volunteer experience with the Pediatric Interest Group, the Loyola Street Medicine Curriculum Project, and the Special Olympics.
